The Bell Policy Center
CLIENT: BELL POLICY CENTER
The Bell Policy Center is a leading voice in Colorado progressive politics. I joined the Bell in 2018 and have expanded my role into my current title as Assistant Communications Director. In this role, I oversee all visual branding and communications across a wide variety of projects and sub-organizations. I lay out expansive research documents, animate educational videos, plan and post social media content, create logos, full websites, and more. Solving creative problems in ways that connect with our audience and motivate positive change is what drives my career.

Colorado Ballot Guides
2022 Ballot Guide
Each year, the Bell Policy Center releases a ballot guide for Colorado’s statewide elections. Working with the policy & research team, I lead the layout and design of the ballot guide document and accompanying promotional collateral. In addition to general information and recommendations, we also include a scorecard to rank each ballot measure on three key categories: tax fairness, racial equity, and economic mobility. The ballot guide is commonly the most widely used piece of content that the Bell Policy Center produces.
Along with the 2022 Ballot Guide document, which features a lively, abstract comic style cover, I also laid out a wordpress webpage with a mobile optimized quick guide on all the measures voters would encounter on their ballots

2021 Ballot Guide
Colorado’s 2021 ballot was shorter, but no less impactful on the future of our state. The cover illustration aimed to highlight the impact of each individual vote in a bright and eye-catching way. The cutout bubble shape overlapping the edge of the page continues the use of the boxes and bubbles which make up real ballots.

2020 Ballot Guide
The first ballot guide I created for the Bell Policy Center, the 2020 cover illustration plays with the idea of a deconstructed ballot. Cut up and arranged ballot shapes create a confusing jumble, mirroring the familiar overwhelming feeling of sitting down with a real ballot. Through this mess, a map arises, charting a way between highlighted bubbles, just as the Bell’s ballot guide is a map through often confusing and contradictory ballot measures.

Video & Animation
A primary aspect of my role at the Bell Policy Center is the creation of informative video content. This video content takes many forms; from hand illustrating and animating longer explainer videos, to filming and editing interviews, to utilizing stock video with kinetic text, photo, and other graphic elements for paid ads or quick-hit social media pieces, I have the ability to create unique video content for any communications need.

QUALITY CHILD CARE IN COLORADO RESEARCH SERIES
Another key element of my work with the Bell Policy Center is laying out research documents. Whether written by the Bell’s policy research team, or contracted with a local university or organization, my job is to present the text and data in clear and attractive ways.
Below, you can see an example of this process. I can take a rough word doc with all the information, set up the images, elements, and layout in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, and produce high-quality, branded PDF documents.

Donor Communications and Mailers
Showcasing organizational accomplishments with donors and supporters is an essential part of nonprofit communications. Twice per year, the Bell Policy Center sends printed mailers to our supporter list. Conceptualizing and producing those mailers was another key part of my role. Finding new ways to communicate what we’ve been doing, and where we’re going next, is always a fun creative challenge. Below you can see a small selection of these pieces; a short comic story I fully illustrated and turned into a short video, a classic folding card with a garden theme, and a mailer that unfolds into a large stained-glass map of our year with QR codes leading to content produced in each season.

Colorado Ballot Guides
As a 501(C3) nonprofit organization, the Bell Policy Center is limited in what political stances it can take. The Bell Action Network, C4 sub-organization, is used to run campaign ads and speak directly on candidates and proposed legislation. Rebranded in 2020, I designed a new logo highlighting the reverberation of progressive action while remaining reminiscent of the Bell’s Policy Center’s primary logo design. Since the relaunch, I have created numerous digital ads, social media graphics, videos, and other content under the Bell Action Network brand.
