New Era is a nonprofit organization engaging young people in Colorado politics, and is one of the most effective youth civic engagement organizations in the country. I have worked on a freelance basis on a number of projects with New Era, creating T-shirt designs, large format signage, and laying out their annual report. I have loved working with New Era’s passionate and creative team and always relish the opportunity to apply my art and design to strengthening democracy in Colorado.

The Colorado Democracy Challenge is a volunteer program to get young people registered to vote. This T-shirt design was given out to each of the volunteers. The artwork builds off of the phrase the “the fruits of our labor” showing with abstract motifs from voter registration combined with colorful fruits & flora.

I was commissioned to fully design and layout the 2020 New Era Colorado annual report. I conceptualized the style, edited all the photos, and built the layout in adobe InDesign, incorporating feedback from the New Era team along the way. The result is a photo-forward document that celebrates the big wins from the year and highlights the dedication and hard work of New Era’s incredible staff.

A new law passed in 2020 allows 17 year olds to vote in the primary if they turn 18 before the general election. As part of the awareness campaign for this, I designed the collateral for tabling events hosted at college campuses around Colorado. Featuring a large format vinyl sign, with an illustration of a school hall and a voting center shaped as a 17, and a set of buttons to pass out, this campaign helped bring new voices into the electoral process.
